Rural Special held its first elementary school chess tournament.
Class winners are as follows:
1st grade- Kamden Stewart
2nd grade- Lydia Phillips

Overall school champion- Archer Lejeune
Based on their performances in the tournament, the following students will represent our school at a chess tournament in Batesville at UACCB on March 11.

Here are updated brackets for the tournament.



Due to road conditions, the 1A-2 District Tournament is being pushed back again. Semi-finals will be Saturday, with games beginning at 12:00, and finals will be played Monday, with games beginning at 5:00pm.

RS:
The 1A-2 District Tournament games originally scheduled for Thursday and Friday will be moved to Friday and Saturday at the same times listed on the bracket. We will be assessing road conditions and making changes if need be.

Rural Special held its school spelling bee today for grades 3-8. The winners from each of the class bees competed in the school bee today. Winners are as follows:
1st place- Adalyn Berry
2nd place- Mason Knapp
3rd place- Arianna Chappell
4th place/alternate- Jayden Blackwell
Adalyn, Mason, and Arianna will represent RS at the County Bee at RS on Feb. 19 at 9:00am. They will receive their trophies from today's bee at the county bee.


Stone County held its first Poetry Out Loud competition today at Ozarka. Thank you to Ozarka College, Arkansas Craft School, and Stone Bank for sponsoring this event.
Today's winners were:
1st place- Diamond Osburn- Rural Special High School
2nd place- Danica Davis- Mountain View High School
3rd place- Kaylee Baker- Timbo High School
4th place- Cassie McClatchie- Timbo High School
All 4 of these students will represent our county at the state competition in Little Rock on March 1.

This year a group of Rebel alumni and enthusiasts came together and started the Rebel Pride Jacket Drive. This initiative was created to make sure that every Rural Special student who wanted a Rebel letterman jacket was able to get one. There were 36 students in grades 10-12 who didn't already own a jacket and who wanted one. With the help of the following sponsors , those students received jackets tonight:

Rural Special FCCLA attended the Region 2 District Conference and STAR events on Thursday, December 12. Danielle Pipkin, Emily West, Tucker Taylor, Nolan Winkle, and Sabrina McBroom qualified to compete at the State STAR events in April .
